Is it really August 11 already? Seems like my summer just got started, what with doing Pride and Prejudice in June and traveling all over the world in July. I really should be working on school things, getting ready to start my year and all that. Instead I'm just working in the yarrd and managing the Lexicon team and sleeping in later than I should.

And I'm okay with that.

What I'm NOT okay with is the British press. I've been burned twice. Never again. So if you're a reporter for a British newspaper, bite me.

Steve

What are the two sources that burned you? Is one the article written by the woman at Lumos?

Hmmm. Yeah, now the hard and long summer is over and we can start relaxing... Eh- No?

I'm going to London on Wednesday - to by books for my courses - I think. I should read up on things before September, but I'd much rather procrastinate.

I think you have deserved some doing-almost-nothing time with the schedule you've had.

Let's just say that journalists probably won't be welcomed with open arms at next year's con. I still wonder if I should send the Lumos woman a nice selection of Norwegian fertiliser samples to brighten up her day. I probably shouldn't. But I would like to.

Don't worry about the British press - it was the same group of papers for both articles, so they have the same need to take the mick out of us. Having said that, the Guardian is the paper I normally read. They just get a tad too big for their boots on occasion.

Going off on a total tangent, if you'd like a copy of the Accio proceedings, could you send me your address?

I saw one of those articles. Well, what did you expect a mainstream person to think? HP fandom is a scary place, what with the Hermione/Snape and Hagrid/Buckbeak. They didn't even explain the Msscribe story.

If they report what they see, so be it.

But when they intentionally misquote so that it sounds like someone says something completely outragoues when they didn't, or when they lie about being press until after people have talked to them, then print things which they said they wouldn't when their press status was revealed, that's reprehensible.

So reporters from British newspapers can still bite me.

I completely understand Steve. Those of us who went to Accio all read the travesty that was the spread on the con. Death threats to JKR? Obsessed with slash pairings at the conference? Ummmm.....NO.

Oh well. See ya around the Lex. I'll be hangin' with Kip at St. Mungos on the Forum. :-D

There seems to be a lot going on with the British press and fandom. Being Swedish I haven't seen any papers, but I'm sorry that they're treating you and anyone else badly.

I'm inclined to agree with the biting. The same article completely misrepresented the paper I wrote about Harry Potter and journalism, making me sound like an idiot who was a bit too obsessed with Soviet Russia.

I find it strange that it only seems to be the British press who are sinking to the levels of Rita Skeeter. I haven't heard about any of this happening in American journalism yet.

By the way, this is Rachael from Snapecast. I met you at Lumos briefly and just realized that you had an LJ.

Internet, yarrd and sleep sounds like a pretty cool life to me. Want to swap?
