Lexicon outage
Many people have contacted me about the Lexicon being down. I'm sorry about that. We're in the process of transferring the domain and the DNS hasn't changed yet. Hopefully we'll be back up soon.

Steve

Thank you for explaining, and I'm glad it's nothing more serious. I was trying to look up something about Blaise Zabini today and got a scary "not found" message.

Good luck with the transfer!

I've been told that you can still get to the Lexicon if you replace the www.hp-lexicon.info with the IP address: 69.61.53.28.

OK, thank you! Some of my friends on Harry Potter Network were worried, so I'll let them know. :)

Hiya. You might want to remind people that if they do a google search on most popular subjects and include "Lexicon" in the search (Snape timeline Lexicon), they'll usually be able to access the cached version.

I was so worried that the site was down because of the lawsuit. Good to know all is well with the site at least, hope you are well also personally. Can't imagine the stress, myself, and you have my full sympathies in this mess as a fellow obsessive-compulsive Ravenclaw. I really just wish that this could be settled by your publisher getting reimbursed for their expenses if what they did so far was legal and in good faith, you get hired by JKR to help with compiling The Scottish Book and paid for your time as you deserve to be (I can't gush about how much I love the Lexicon enough - not only is it the layout well-done, it is devoid of the blinking annoying crud that makes other sites too distracting for serious research - I can spend hours just wandering around the Lexicon and appreciating other obsessives' perspectives on canon, usually having to go look up things to interpret them for myself in canon and elsewhere as a result). JKR is a great writer but clearly not very organized with her notes since she had to consult the Lexicon while writing, if this hadn't turned into such a sad state of affairs everyone could have benefited from the two of you working synergistically instead of adversarially.

Wishing you the best,

Astarte (the lady with a baby in a wheelchair at Prophecy 2007)

Thanks so much!

I'm hoping that the site will be back up soon, but now it's a matter of patiently waiting. I still haven't heard that the transfer has actually taken place. I know it's pending, but I don't know much more than that.

I do hope the word gets out that this is just a 'bump in the road'. We were starting to do some major work to get everything working right again, cleaned up, and updated. It's depressing to have the site down in the middle of all that.

Yeah, I'd noticed there were many changes going on (the sidebar navigation had been hit-or-miss for a while so I figured you guys were reworking things). I liked the new header graphic - when you get time to add it to your CafePress or something, I'd really like that one on a coffee mug (and my birthday is coming up, hubby needs some hints, baby keeps threatening to break my favorite coffee mug these days anyway so time for a backup).

I just really hope all this internet-giving-Steve-the-hairy-eyeball stuff blows over soon and takes the legal icks with it.

Any news on the travel book? My hubby and I really enjoyed your presentation style and look forward to having the information in book form.

There was something else I ment to say but the baby (now toddler) hit the back button in the middle of my typing and lost it for me.

I wondered about the strange look of things when I went to check out the "What's New" page. Good to hear it's not shutting down.

Steve, re our IM last week; you still haven't friended me back.

I had no idea how much I counted on the Lexicon until I tried and failed to access it! Fearing it had vanished, I panicked! I'm so glad [info]hogwarts_today linked to this post, and that you included an alternate IP address in your comments.

I'm also glad that it's just a "bump in the road". I've already mentioned it at my site (with a link to this post), and I will spread the word amongst my LJ friends.

I hope the domain transfer goes well.

Thank you so much for telling us this. I nearly panicked at the thought it was taken down.
